48in48 Nonprofit Highlight – August 2019
Homework House of Holyoke, Massachusetts is a place where children growing up in the most economically challenged neighborhoods can experience learning success. It is a safe place whose staff and volunteers cherish and nurture children so they can learn and grow and find renewed joy in learning! Homework House strengthens the surrounding community by promoting educational success through free, individualized tutoring and mentoring for children at-risk.
To better understand the long-term impact of Homework House, this compelling video says it all with former student Odalis Amparo, who received help from Homework House as a child. She is now a teacher who volunteers time to tutor and mentor the young students of today, providing them with positive coaching and reinforcement, just as she had once received.
After 48in48 volunteers rebuilt the Homework House website, volunteers and clients can more easily access information about programs and volunteering, with new online volunteer and program applications on the site that connect directly to Homework House’s organizing database. Interested parties can also donate money quickly and easily through the site.
To further help Homework House in their mission, you can get involved in a couple of ways — volunteer as a tutor or donate money to sponsor a child. Please visit their website or Facebook page to learn more.
