48in48 Nonprofit Highlight – October 2019: MPZS

Miller Park Zoological Society – Conservation. Education. Community.

Miller Park Zoological Society

Based in Bloomington, Illinois, the Miller Park Zoological Society (MPZS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Miller Park Zoo through fundraising, education and community outreach. For example, their current focus is on raising funds to purchase a much-needed X-Ray machine for the zoo. With onsite x-ray, zookeepers develop accurate and timely treatment strategies and can reduce stress on animals who would no longer need to be transported off-site. And that’s just one example of what this organization is doing. They also offer education programs and conservation initiatives alongside the major attraction that the Miller Park Zoo already is.

How did the 48in48-built website help MPZS with its efforts?

For MPZS, the website has provided the organization a place to communicate more information; they use it to focus on specific fundraising efforts, create donor calls-to-action, highlight upcoming events, share news of zoo happenings and generate interest from the Bloomington community. After working with the 48in48 volunteers, the team has learned more about using digital marketing and technology to better achieve its vision. Development Director Paula Pratt says, “Our website designed with help from 48in48 tells our story better than ever, and we are seeing significant impact with our members and donors.”

How can you get involved?

There are always numerous volunteer opportunities at the zoo, and MPZS also needs volunteers to serve on planning committees for the various community fundraising events such as the Stampede 5K, Brews at the Zoo and the Zoo Do. Please email [email protected] to inquire about volunteering and other ways to get involved.
